This training focuses on the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. You will learn it is great detail with the Sanskrit names, vinyasa count, modifications, contraindications, adjustments and verbal cues for each posture in detail. You will also learn to recognize patterns of imbalance and be given guidance to ensure safety. While staying grounded in a traditional philosophy and classical yoga sequences we will explore a global fusion of techniques coming from both traditional and contemporary sources.

Our online Ashtanga Yoga Training has three main components. Yoga Methodology, Physiology and Healing Arts, and History and Philosophy of Yoga. We go deeply into each of these categories. When you complete the training you will have a robust set of skills, and confidence in your knowledge.

The Philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga

The Sanskrit community of Mysore India has played a huge roll in the development of our program. We connect you to a yoga tradition. This is an education like no other.

Our Philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga curriculum is a powerful and eyeopening experience. This segment includes the six classical Indian philosophies known as the Shet Darshanas, (Yoga being one of these). We also explore Bhagavad Gita, and Patanjali Sutras. We aim to give our students an accurate understanding of yoga as a philosophy and explore the world view that it rests upon. You will enjoy many lectures by renowned Sanskrit scholars from Mysore talking about the history of yoga in Mysore as well as its philosophical background. You will get a deep and articulate view of yoga through direct exposure to the yoga community of Mysore India. You will be learning traditional as well as contemporary views of yoga philosophy as we discus the concepts with an international group of sincere students.

We explore the history of Ashtanga Yoga and impart an accurate view as to which aspects of it are ancient and which aspects are modern. You will be hearing the stories of how yoga developed in Mysore India (the birthplace of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga) directly from the people who witnessed it in their own community.

Our training is affiliated with Samskriti Foundation in Mysore India, Mysore Yoga Conference, and will be assisted by Dr. M A Alwar who is the spiritual leader (Acharya) of Nathamuni Sampradaya, Director of Samskriti Foundation and a senior professor at the Maharaja’s Sanskrit College in Mysore. Our course includes talks by numerous Indian Sanskrit scholars covering a wide range of topics. This allows you to absorb ideas about yoga philosophy directly from some of the greatest philosophers in India. We are able to offer you a glimpse into the culture and mindset of Indian yoga that unique to our training.

Mysore Yoga Traditions documentary is an insightful documentary which Andrew Eppler directed and produced in 2016. If you are considering our training it is a great idea to watch this film to get an idea of the sort of education we offer.

connect to a tradition

Our graduates can speak with confidence about the yoga tradition they they have learned from.

We will study Mysore Yoga Parampara in detail.

You will hear the elders of Mysore telling the stories of how the asana tradition developed in Mysore. We also learn the true meaning of yoga in the eyes of the people of Mysore as we explore the tradition of Nathamuni Sampradaya and learn about the Vishishta Advaita philosophy that Mysore is famous for. When yoga philosophy is explained by senior Sanskrit scholars it takes on a whole different meaning and becomes a direct transmission of world view and life experience. We focus on the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Sutras from both traditional and contemporary perspectives so that these classical yoga texts take on real meaning and become a part of our understanding of yoga.

We want our students to graduate with an articulate and accurate perspective on what yoga means, both historically and today in our own paradigm. We will look carefully at the history of yoga and give you an overview of how yoga has evolved into its current form. You will have a clear understanding of which parts of yoga are ancient and which parts of it are modern,  how old the techniques you are practicing and sharing with others are, and where they came from. We give the most current information based on the latest research in this field.

Physiology and Healing

Understand alignment, safety and how to practice yoga postures correctly in a compassionate manner which can be maintained throughout life.

PHYSIOLOGY AND HEALING ARTS

A key feature of this area of our training is postural analysis and the art of observing the human body. You will learn the markers of imbalance and how to notice them in yourself and others. By cultivating a keen sense of observation we encourage safety, accuracy in technique and become better practitioners.

We focus on Functional Anatomy so that you learn by direct experience what the muscles we are studying actually do in your body. We will also learn what happens if musculature becomes imbalanced and how to recognize and correct these imbalances. We give you many tools for assessing the symmetry and stability of the human body. You will learn safe and effective methods for correcting physical imbalances. This training is aimed at creating joyful, pain free yoga practice that can be enjoyed through all stages of life.

Graduates of the program will have many techniques to work with including an introduction to Thai bodywork that is very useful to help understand postural adjustments. We believe a competent yoga practitioner should be able to correct their practice when they are experiencing pain and difficulty in postures. Our training gives you the experience and techniques you need to do this. You will also have the knowledge to help others in their yoga journey.
