A private class is the oldest way yoga has been taught. One teacher, one student, and enough time to actually see what is in front of us.

Group classes carry an energy of their own, and there is nothing like them. But a private session is where the fine work happens. The pattern in a shoulder that keeps the breath from settling. The hesitation that lives in one particular posture. The home practice that finally fits a real life rather than an ideal one. We start with what is actually happening in your body and your breath, and we build from there.

I have been teaching yoga for more than thirty years, and private work is still my favorite room to be in. The first session usually runs long, because it is mostly listening and looking. Postural assessment, how you breathe, where the practice is catching. From there I build sequences that are yours, and I draw on the bodywork and therapeutic methods I have spent decades learning, when they are needed.

Most sessions include some internal work with breath and concentration, and you leave with a short home practice to carry on your own. I work happily with anyone, from a complete beginner trying yoga for the first time to a long-time practitioner with very specific questions. Haṭha and yoga therapy by request.

Mila Rybakova-Eppler

Mila teaches with an eye for detail and a gift for seeing what a person actually needs, whether the question is one of technique or of approach. Her work draws on Āyurveda, yoga philosophy, women's practices, and healing technique. She teaches Ishvara Yoga, women's yoga, gentle and beginner practice, Vinyāsa flow, yoga for the spine, prāṇāyāma, Ashtanga Vinyāsa, yoga nidrā, meditation, and aerial yoga, privately and in groups, in person and online.

What a private session holds

More than a sequence of postures.

A session begins with postural assessment and a clear look at where you want the practice to go. From there it can hold whatever serves you most: customized āsana, therapeutic movement, breathing practice and prāṇāyāma, Thai bodywork, mudrā, and meditation, along with counsel drawn from the classical texts and practical guidance on diet and daily life. For older students, we work gently, with breath, movement, and hands-on care. After every session you leave with a written home practice, so the work continues between us.

In the studio or online. The first session usually runs a little longer, at the same rate, since it is largely diagnostic. Andrew's traditional Thai bodywork is priced the same and lives on its own page.
