Study Ashtanga online with Mysore's living tradition
A 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified training built on direct contact with senior Sanskrit scholars from Mysore. Self-paced video curriculum, weekly live sessions, and a final oral examination with Dr. M. A. Alwar.
A note from Andrew Eppler
For many years I have taught this practice in person — in Oklahoma, in India, at the Mysore Yoga Conference. Some students can travel. Many cannot. This online training was built for the second group: the ones whose lives, work, or families keep them at home, and who still want an education that is rooted in the place this practice came from.
What I have tried to do here is bring Mysore to your screen — not a sanitized, branded version of it, but the actual voices of the scholars who have shaped my own understanding. Dr. M. A. Alwar, senior professor at Maharaja's Sanskrit College, agreed to be the final examiner for every student who completes this course. That is not a marketing arrangement. It is a relationship that has taken years to build, and one I do not take lightly.
This is a flexible program, not a watered-down one. You will study at your own pace, in your own home, on your own schedule — but what you study is the real thing. If this is the practice that has been asking for your attention, I am glad to be of use.
— Andrew
The Training
A complete 200-hour education — at your pace
Self-paced video curriculum
150+ hours of newly organized video covering asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra chanting, anatomy, methodology, and the philosophical core of yoga. Begin immediately on enrollment. Complete in as little as three months or take the full twelve.
Live sessions, three times weekly
Optional live Q&A and study sessions each week with senior Sanskrit scholars and teachers. Listen, ask questions, and study in dialogue. Monthly Q&A calls with Andrew keep your progress supported as you move through the material.
Personal mentorship
Three private Zoom calls with Andrew are included for personal feedback and direction. Optional one-on-one mentorship is available for students who want deeper accompaniment along the way.
What makes this different
Not a course about Mysore. A course from Mysore.
Most online yoga teacher trainings sell a sequence and a certificate. This one offers something structurally different: an education developed alongside the senior Sanskrit scholars of Mysore — the same lineage that produced Sri Krishnamacharya — adapted for sincere students who cannot travel to India.
You will study the Primary Series, pranayama, and chanting alongside structured teachings from the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, and the Sankhya Karika, drawn from the lecture courses and personal teaching of scholars at the Samskriti Foundation and Maharaja's Sanskrit College. Each topic is supported by voices from the heart of Mysore.
The final examination is not a multiple-choice quiz. It is an oral exam with Dr. M. A. Alwar.
Curriculum
Five threads of study, woven together
Module 01
Āsana — The Primary Series
The full Ashtanga Primary Series taught with vinyasa counts, alignment principles, and the theoretical foundation behind the sequence. Memorization of the series is a graduation requirement.
Module 02
Breath, mantra, and bandha
Pranayama, mudra, and bandha in their traditional forms, taught with clear Sanskrit pronunciation. Mantra chanting drawn from the Mysore tradition.
Module 03
Philosophy intensive
Focused study of the Sankhya Karika, the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita, taught through lecture courses from Mysore scholars and accompanied by guided readings.
Module 04
Functional anatomy & therapeutics
Anatomy applied to practice — injury prevention, pain-free movement, and the principles behind safe and intelligent adjustment.
Module 05
Teaching methodology
Sequencing, verbal cueing, the theory of hands-on adjustment, and the quieter work of how to hold space for a class with attention and care.
Final ✦
Examination & certification
Short essays on five core topics, memorization of the Primary Series and the Eight Limbs, an oral exam on methodology with Andrew, and a final oral exam on philosophy with Dr. M. A. Alwar.
"Ashtanga Yoga Studio's teacher training prepares its trainees to teach principles and techniques of yoga that are more advanced, and to teach with greater skill, than could reasonably be expected of an RYT 200."— Claudia A.

Certification
Dual recognition
Upon passing the final oral examination, you will receive a 200-hour RYT certificate endorsed by both Yoga Alliance and the Samskriti Foundation in Mysore, India — a traditional Sanskrit institution, not a yoga school. To our knowledge, no other online 200-hour training in the world holds this co-recognition.
Optional — for US-based students
Add in-person weekends at Magic Forest
If you are in the United States, you can supplement the online curriculum with in-person training weekends at Magic Forest Center in Oklahoma, thirty minutes from Norman. Enrolled online students attend at a discounted rate of $150 per weekend.

- Want mentorship and a real teacher relationship — not just videos.

Voices from the training
Andrew Eppler is a long-time student of Ashtanga Yoga in the lineage of Krishnamacharya and B. N. S. Iyengar. His approach to the practice is level-headed, down-to-earth, and very sincere. I especially appreciated his commitment to ensuring that students are exposed to the philosophical traditions of the lineage.HOMER W.
Thank you, Andrew, for sharing your decades of knowledge on yoga. This training is as authentic as one can get and goes beyond asana to uncover the multifaceted teachings of yoga from its origin.MARY G.
