Learn Sanskrit from the Heart of Mysore India!

Sanskrit is the language of yoga and some say the language of the heart! Each of the Sanskrit letters are inscribed on one of the petals of the Chakras. Pronunciation of Sanskrit mantras increases mental sharpness and memory, and it is an ancient sound code that tones the nervous system and focuses the mind. It is common for Sanskrit Scholars to remain mentally clear and sharp to the end of their life, sometimes into their 90s. We have seen this again and again in Mysore and they all say the same thing- chanting keeps the mind clear.

This will be a basic introduction that will teach us to recognize the characters of the Devanagari alphabet and pronounce their sounds correctly. We will learn the tongue positions required to make the various sounds and tune our ears to refine our hearing as well as pronunciation of Sanskrit words. If you have always wanted to learn Sanskrit but have felt daunted by its complexity, this is a fantastic opportunity to start the journey with extremely qualified teachers who are ready to teach from the very first steps and who can give a classical understanding of the role Sanskrit plays in learning yoga.

All three of our teachers are lifelong Sanskrit scholars who have grown up chanting Sanskrit scriptures. These classes will be by donation and available to anyone who is interested in learning, wherever they are in the world. Recordings will be sent to everyone each week. Those who cannot attend live may still learn from the recordings and send any questions they have by email.

Suggested donation is $9 per class. All students will be accepted regardless of payment. This class is offered as a service to the international yoga community! Proceeds will go to the Samskriti Foundation for preservation of ancient palm leaf manuscripts and other charitable works.
