We had hoped to host this evening at the Magic Forest east of Norman. The recent heavy rains have made the trail impassable, so we have moved the whole gathering to our backyard in town. Same flow, same intention — smaller, more intimate, and easier to reach.
Start time is now 4:00 PM (one hour later than originally planned). The creek swim and mud bath are not possible at this location; we will honor water and earth in a different way during the opening circle.
The word solstice comes from sol and sistere — the sun standing still. For three days at the end of June the sun rises and sets at nearly the same point on the horizon before it begins its long return south. Every culture that paid attention to the sky built a way to mark the pause.
This Saturday we mark it together. Andrew, Mila, and Anna Catherine each bring a thread — Mila her Slavic ritual lineage, Andrew decades of practice and study inside Aṣṭāṅga and Indian philosophical traditions, Anna Catherine the American land we stand on. The three weave naturally. Movement, fire, food, song. The intention is simple: notice what the year is doing, and be in it with people who notice too.
Whether you arrive with a long practice behind you or none at all, you are welcome. Bring a dish, an open evening, and whatever you would like to set down at the door.
The Evening’s Flow
Opening Circle & Solstice Flow
We begin together, settle the room, and move into a steady āsana flow suited to all levels. A short rite to honor water and earth — the elements we will not be entering this year — opens the practice.
Led by AndrewWater & Earth Ceremony
A short, deliberate offering to the two elements that brought us here — and to the rain that changed our plans. The earth in this backyard has its own quiet to listen to.
Vegetarian Potluck
Bring a dish to share. Plates, water, and a place to set things down will be ready. Eat slowly — there is no hurry to get to the fire.
Sacred Fire Circle
The heart of the evening. Slavic, Indian, and American ritual elements woven together around a single fire — chant, offering, and an invitation to leave something behind as the year turns.
Led by Mila & Anna CatherineKīrtan & Live Music
We sing into the dark. Stay as long as you like; the fire will keep on.
