Welcome to our Thai Massage CoursE
Please watch the Introduction video to learn some precautions before you begin. After watching the short introduction, proceed into the videos in the order they are presented. You will learn how to give a full, four position Thai Massage. You will need a partner to work with.(preferably a partner who will also massage you as you learn together) You will need a clean, quiet place to work where you can concentrate on the techniques. Thai Massage is generally done on the floor. You can use a yoga mat or some folded blankets, but the best thing is a professional Thai Massage mat. They are an investment, but they are really good to have if you plan to get into this style of work. Click here to purchase a high quality Thai mat.
Please observe all the precautions mentioned in the Intro video. Thai Massage is ideal for yoga practitioners. People who don’t like Thai say that it is too rough. Precautions are mentioned throughout the videos and you should adhere to them carefully. Watch out for people’s knees which may not be accustomed to the deep stretches shown here. Leave those movements out entirely if they are problematic. In general you want 7-8 on a scale of 1-10 with your pressure. The slow tempo makes it very enjoyable. Working with proper body mechanics makes it safe and enjoyable for you. Both the giver and receiver go into a sort of trance state when things go well. As you practice you will develop your intuition and understanding of what pressure is required and which moves to linger on. But in the beginning don’t try to guess, just ask! Encourage the recipient to give you feedback throughout the massage. You may find some people are very talkative at first. However, if your tempo is steady and your pressure is right, almost always you will see their eyes close and they become calm and go into a state of deep relaxation as they enjoy their massage. That is the greatest complement to your work!
I hope you will enjoy Thai Massage as much as I have over the years. it is a very powerful healing modality and can truly help people. It is a lot to take in and a lot to memorise. Just go slow and enjoy. Remember that if you know even four or five techniques from this course you are already a much better masseur. Just keep sharing it regularly with people who are close to you and eventually you will find opportunities to give Thai bodywork in a more professional environment if you wish to do so.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or comments as you practice!
